Kaity Meagher (b. October 1, 1993) is an American Special education teacher, songwriter, former Nassau County Girl Scout and former member of Troop 2131.
Growing up being the oldest child with two younger brothers, was what inspired Kaity to become a teacher. Ever since she was little, Kaity would always try to get her brother Chris, who is 3 years younger than her, to play "school" with her. She would type-up pretend worksheets on her computer for "Miss Kaity's class" to do, even if it was just him completing them.
In 2002, when she was nine years old, her youngest brother Matt, was born. Through Matt's toddler years, Kaity, her brother Chris and her parents realized that Matt wasn't quite up to speed with the other kids his age, and after many years of testing, speech and occupational therapy, they learned that Matt has ADHD, Auditory processing issues, and other qualities of various learning disabilities. Growing up with a brother who has special needs and who struggles when it comes to learning, had almost been natural for Kaity. Because of him, Kaity was able to understand what a child with special needs is feeling when others may not, and she's able to use certain techniques that she has learned from Matt to help them out as well.
In High School, Kaity was very involved in many sports, clubs, and activities and had various leadership positions such as being the Captain of her school's Soccer Team and also being the Captain of the White SportNight Team, which is one of her high school's biggest school events. These and other experiences have taught her so much about working as not only a team but as a leader, inspiration, and motivator for others, which are crucial skills that any teacher must have in order to truly be successful. In 2011, Kaity graduated from Oceanside High School with an Advanced Regents Diploma and was ready to head off to Marist College to begin her studies in Psychology and Special Education!
In 2014, she wrote an original song titled “Until All the Pieces Fit,” to raise awareness and to support affected families that have children with special needs.
Kaity received her bachelor's degree in Special Education/Psychology from Marist College and received her master's degree from Hofstra University.
