Girl Scout Wiki

Rebecca Bocek is a former member of Girl Scout Troop 76 in the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast and a 2006 Gold Awardee.

Rebecca's passion for swimming and her love of children were the inspirations for her Girl Scout Gold Award project. She held free swimming lessons for 63 children between the ages of 3 and 12 Dec. 26-30, 2005 at the South Shore YMCA.

In addition to swimming skills, the children were taught about boating safety and how to properly wear life jackets. Rebecca's main goal was to teach swimming to children who wouldn't normally be able to take swimming lessons because of financial restrictions. The YMCA provided the pool and equipment free of charge and Bocek recruited volunteer lifeguards and certified swim instructors.

Rebecca had been a Girl Scout for 12 years and was a member of Girl Scout Troop 76. Julie Bock and Dani Seavert served as advisors for her project.
